Intro

It sounds obvious, but most of us don’t only buy what we need in our weekly shop – we buy a lot more.

This is partly due to us not looking at what we already have in the cupboards, not planning ahead for the meals we need that week, and not making a list before we go shopping. We are then tempted by offers we see in our shops and often pick up more than we need for convenience. Sadly, all of this is leading to food not being eaten in time, and mountains of good food going to waste.

The average family wastes approximately £83 of food every month.

We all hate it when food gets wasted – do your bit by only buying what you need.

So here are our top tips to help you to only buy what you really need and do your bit for the planet too:

  • When you are doing your shopping, if you can, opt for fruit and vegetables not pre-packed in plastic – only buying the amount that you think you’ll need. That way, you know none of it will end up in the bin. What’s more, you get to choose the exact items you like the look and feel of.
